safety and internal controls. In keeping with this, the Tiger forensic
team has given us some feedback regarding some criminal prosecutions that have taken place during
the last six months…
Tiger Brands has a zero-tolerance policy towards fraud, corruption
and unethical behaviour, which is why we introduced our whistleblowing hotline –

consumers, customers and suppliers to report unethical business practices confidentially, without fear of
prejudice or victimisation.
THREE CASES RELATED TO THE THEFT OF BENNY STOCK AT OUR DAVITA MANUFACTURING SITE.
In the first case, the perpetrator was sentenced
to six months’ imprisonment or a fine of R2 000, with an additional 12 months’ imprisonment suspended for
three years, on condition that he is not found guilty of a similar offence during that time.
In the second case, the magistrate sentenced the
accused to five months’ imprisonment or a fine of R5 000. Half of the sentence was suspended for five
years, again on condition that a similar offence is not committed during this period.
In the third case, the perpetrators had to serve
a mandatory prison sentence of 6 months without the option of a fine.
ANOTHER TWO CASES DEALT WITH THE SALE OF COUNTERFEIT KOO BAKED BEANS.
In the fourth case, the accused pled guilty and
was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment or a fine of R20 000, suspended for five years, on condition
that the accused was not found guilty of a similar offence during that time.
In the fifth case, the guilty party was sentenced
to five months’ imprisonment or a fine of R5 000. Half of the sentence was suspended for five years,
once again on condition that a similar offence was not committed during this period.
IN THE SIXTH CASE RELATED TO THE THEFT OF KOO LABELS AND
BRIGHT STOCK THAT WAS ISOLATED FOR DESTRUCTION.
The suspect was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment or a fine of R5 000. Half of his sentence was
suspended for five years, on condition that a similar offence was not committed during that time.
Additionally, investigations into ethics line reports also resulted in the following dismissals:
Three employees for gross dishonesty.
These employees are also being criminally prosecuted; and
One employee for sexual harassment and gross misconduct.
